Marathon Man

Here he is! Our very own "Marathon Man". I really do think it's incredible that Ryan has never been a runner his whole life. He just started running the end of spring and ended up running a full marathon in September. It's always been kind of a goal/dream of his it just took a little inspiration to get him to do it. We love watching biggest loser, and this last season there was Mike, the biggest guy ever to be on the show who ended up running a marathon at the end. Mike said "If I can run a marathon, you can run a marathon" and I guess that's all it took to finally inspire Ryan to start training. He is so crazy though! I told him to start out slow, maybe with a 5 or 10k but no, he wanted to go big and started out with a half marathon. Never even run a race before and he starts out by running the Hobbler Half Marathon in Springville.
Kyle, Lee, Ryan, and Candace after the Hobbler Half Marathon.
This was his first half marathon and his time was 2:04 which I thought was great for his first time. I was really surprised to learn he didn't stop to take a break once the whole time. He never stopped running which I thought was amazing!

He ran the Hobbler Half in July and was ready to run the Provo Half in August. He finished this one in an hour and 54 minutes. Here he is after the race with Kyle and Lee.
He also ran the Hobble Creek Half Marathon in August but I don't have any pictures. He finished that one in an hour and 49 minutes.
Then he was ready to run The Top of Utah Full Marathon in September.
Ryan's Mom rode up to Logan with the girls and me to see Ryan finish. Lee also met us up there to see Kyle and Ryan run the race. Here we are waiting for them to cross the finish line.
Here he comes! He made it!Here are the finishers...
Kyle and Ryan

He finished in 4 hours and 19 minutes! I thought that was so great! I think the first thing he said to me after he finished is "Finished my first and last marathon! I'll never do that again." I knew he'd change his mind after a couple days once the marathon wasn't so fresh on his memory, and sure enough he just told me this week he wants to do The Top of Utah Marathon every year!Della fell asleep on the walk back to the car, I don't know who was more pooped, her or Ryan. I wanted to post a picture of Ryan's poor feet 'cause a few of his toes are black. Maybe I'll take one later today and post it. Congrats Ryan and Kyle. That really is an amazing accomplishment that I can't really say I'd ever want to achieve.... but good for you guys!
